With over sixteen years of experience as a transactional lawyer and a litigator, Barrister Reza has advised Impact Investment Funds, Microfinance Banks, Financial institutions and Multinationals on a vast range of legal issues ranging from debt and equity financing, shareholder arrangements, corporate compliance, quasi-equity arrangements and complex securitization structures. Reza is also experienced in regulatory compliance and corporate governance, and advises numerous corporate entities in this regard.
Reza has advised global Investment Funds and Financial Institutions with respect to their debt and equity investments in Pakistan. He also has rich experience in the Microfinance Sector and currently advises three major Microfinance Banks in Pakistan on a range of varied issues such as branchless banking, service level agreements, commercial disputes and labor and employment issues.
Currently, Reza has been appointed as legal counsel of a leading Impact Investment Advisory Company based in Switzerland for its global operations in Latin America, Africa and East Asia. He advises on the legal aspects of the origination, monitoring and execution of impact investments in emerging markets, particularly with respect to debt and equity financing, quasi-equity arrangements with microfinance banks/institutions.
Reza has also structured complex and sophisticated financial transactions under the Islamic as well as the non-interest modes of financing including Syndicated Term Finance Arrangements, Structured Finance Arrangements and Derivatives and Swap transactions.
He is also an experienced litigator and has also represented clients in a range of contentious matters in Courts across Pakistan. He has to his credit, reported judgments in various Law Journals in Pakistan in matters pertaining to Higher Education law, Shareholder disputes, Constitutional Law, Taxation and Regulatory Law. Additionally, he also appears regularly before Regulatory and Quasi-Judicial forums in Lahore and Islamabad, including the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, The Competition Commission of Pakistan and Insurance/Service Tribunals. Reza has also been appointed as an Arbitrator with respect to a civil dispute involving a State-Owned Gas Company in Pakistan.
Reza has recently been appointed as an Independent Director on the Board of an autonomous statutory body in Punjab, a non-for profit involved in the promotion of education in the underprivileged areas of Punjab, through strategic public and private partnerships.
On the academic front, Reza has been a distinguished and much sought-after lecturer of law who has had the privilege of teaching Jurisprudence and Legal Theory for seventeen years at the University of London’s International Programs. He also frequently contributes Op-ed’s to leading newspapers on legal and regulatory issues, constitutional matters and philosophy.
